Hydrogen was listed as a food additive by multiple countries in 2015, mainly for application in the food industry and safety evaluation:

- China: The national standard GB 31633-2014 *National Food Safety Standard: Food Additive – Hydrogen* was officially implemented on May 24, 2015, specifying the usage specifications of hydrogen as a food additive.

- Japan: The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan revised its food additive list in 2015, retaining hydrogen as No.168 additive and approving its application. Hydrogen-related products have been available in the Japanese market for many years.

- USA: The U.S. FDA granted GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) certification to hydrogen in 2014, confirming the safety of hydrogen dissolved in drinking water and certifying relevant hydrogen water products.
